Cars 2 Video Game to Feature 3D for Playstation 3

Disney Interactive announced yesterday that the new Cars 2: The Video Game, due for release on June 21, will come in 3D for the Playstation 3 network.

This will be the first 3D game made for Playstation 3 by the developer. The Cars 2 video game will be available in 2D for Xbox 360, PC/Mac, the Wii and Nintendo DS and will be closely based on the Pixar movie by the same name, due to come out on June 24. The new 3D graphics on the PS3 version will allow the gamers to get fully absorbed into the single-player and multi-player combat racing tracks and spy adventures.

“The advancement of 3D technology will allow us to immerse the player into the Cars 2 game environment in a whole new way,” said VP of Avalanche Software, John Blackburn, in a press release. “The 3D effects will ratchet up gameplay in ways that will have fans’ hearts pounding when they embark on dangerous spy missions, while our innovative multiplayer with four simultaneous 3D ports will bring a whole new dimension to PS3™ gaming.”

Blackburn is said to be working closely with Pixar artists to bring to life the characters’ personality and humor, states the Hollywood Reporter. Gamers will be able race to their heart’s content and also train to be spies at the prestigious and intriguing international spy training center, C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage). Players can use 20 different ‘Cars’ characters, including Lightening McQueen voiced by Owen Wilson, Ramone voiced by Cheech Marin, and tow truck Mater voiced by Larry the Cable Guy. The Disney-Pixar Cars series began in 2006, and has become a top-grossing boys’ franchise, generating $2 billion a year for a total of $8 billion, adds the Hollywood Reporter.
